#CCMUSIC Introducing – Jorja Smith

A Formidable Young Soulful Talent From Walsall

By Matt King In Introducing, Music

18 year old Jorja Smith is a name to remember for 2016.  The born and raised Walsall native kicked off her career by releasing the debut single ‘Blue Lights’, which was a tasteful combination of soft keys, a kick backed beat and Jorja’s soulful voice soaring above with mature reworks of Dizzee Rascal‘s ‘Sirens’ and Mobb Deep ‘Shook Ones’ lyrics, and captivating angelic harmonies.

Smith’s talents don’t stop with her her voice, lyrically she shows wisdom far beyond her years, tackling issues of bad education, the boredom of youth, and oppressive police in small towns, and ultimately the dark fate of where these problems lead. Check out ‘Blue Lights’ in full below.

After grabbing the attention of Stormzy, Elf Kid and even Skrillex with her debut, Jorja continued to impress with her follow up single ‘A Prince’ featuring Maverick Sobre. The track is a playful twist on a Henry Purcell’s ‘A Prince of Glourious Race Descended’, dating back to 1695. The sparse instrumentation throughout allows Smith’s vocal to shine through. Just this week Jorja Smith released her newest single called ‘Where Did I Go’. The track shows Smith’s continuing growth and abilities as a formidable vocalist and a songwriter. A pumping beat paired with a contrasting soft piano part produced by Cadenza, provides the perfect backdrop for Jorja Smith’s timeless vocals to shine. Check out the track in full below.
