Sampa The Great is a very unique hiphop artist, who combines a colourful collection of jazzy samples and african percussion loops as the base for her warm and punchy voice. Her voice is incredibly versatile with hints of a Macy Gray at times to polar opposite dashes of Lil Kim when she lets herself go.
Born in Zambia but based in Sydney Sampa The Great has already racked up an incredible catalogue of tracks in less than one full year on the scene. Her ‘The Great Mixtape’ was released last summer and was an incredibly diverse collection of 12 tracks beautifully collated by producer Godriguez. Check out the mixtape in full below.

Swiftly following The Great Mixtape she released a six track EP titled ‘Weapon Chosen’. Teaming up with Godriguez again the EP was just as impressive as her debut. Taking on a softer RnB tone with more african influences the EP is a wonderful musical story from start to finish. Check it out in full below and download it for free HERE.

Her latest single ‘Blue Boss‘ is a lovely blend of latino influences. Spanish guitar, muted trumpet melodies are supported by a classic old school hip hop beat and sampled percussion. Her voice again flourishes between hip hop Lauren Hill-esque attitude and smooth rnb tones and her words paint a very figurative picture. This summer she’s racked up an impressive list of festival performances, and is supporting Thundercat on his upcoming Australian tour. Can’t wait to hear more from this artists, lets hope this latest single is off her eagerly awaited debut album!
