Fresh off the insta press there is news that Drake is “first Canadian signed to BBK” (pic below).

You may be asking what is BBK and why is this important?
Well, BBK (AKA Boy Better Know) is a grime crew formed by grime brothers JME & Skepta in 2005 after their former crew ‘Meridian Crew’ dissolved, other members include big grime names such as Wiley, Frisko and Lord of The Mics’ founder Jammer.
BBK has helped the rise in grime popularity by sticking true to their roots and integrity. After a lot of rejection and sniggering from mainstream labels and police (shutting down most live grime events), BBK and grime artists have always released music through their own means and solely off their own back. Including making all the beats, shooting all the videos and arranging the live events, normally on a shoe string budget.
With a passionate and loyal following, BBK MC’s have managed to break into the charts with tracks such as ‘Man Don’t Care’, ‘Shut down’ and That’s Not Me’ amongst many more.
Drake has always been a die hard fan of english urban culture, referencing many grime MC’s personally in both social media, album credits and last fall he even got a tattoo of BBK’s insignia on his shoulder.
The news that Drake has signed a deal with BBK is both great news for grime but also for underground music as a whole. The music business is riddled with exploitation and poor deals for artists, so it is great to see passionate hard working artists paving the way and sticking it to the man.
Watch this space for more news on this, but for now have a listen to a track Drake did with Skepta and Wizkid below.
