Born in Germany to Turkish parents, Umit Benan grew up in Istanbul. He was educated at a private boarding school and and studied at a university in Switzerland and the U.S. After graduation he went on to work alongside notable designers in New York and in Milan, where he finally settled in 2006. He launched his first collection in 2009 subsequently winning the 1st edition of Who’s on Next/Uomo contest the year after at Pitti Uomo. In 2012 Umit Benan was chosen the best menswear brand in Japan. From 2011 to 2013 Umit was the creative director of Trussardi designing men’s, women’s and accessories for it’s very first line.
Umit Benan made a very strong showing at the 23rd edition of Barcelona Fashion Week. Benan presented an array of updated classic and sartorial looks on the runway using black muslim men as his models and the inspiration of his hip yet chic tailored collection.
